Slaves, metal guitars with pop voices

Slaves

Originally published on March 16th, 2018 at 11:11. Updated post with new music.

Slaves … the first thing that caught my attention in this band was the voice.

I know, you’re thinking it should be the first thing, but as an amateur guitarist, there’s nothing more attractive than a good riff. The funny thing about the voice is that remembers more a pop than a metal singer, which I love that mix.

I loved the first albums of the band with the former singer John Craig, specially Beautiful Death, a MASTERPIECE that I’m are sure you are going to enjoy (available on YouTube in streaming).

Hit song:
Prayers by Slave

To Better Days, brings fresh air, taking the leadership Matt McAndrew, maintaining the essence of the melodic voice that we like so much.

The Californian band, founded in 2014, announced before their new album that it would be the last one under the name of Slaves, not only to fight racial injustice, to close the door on the consumption of illegal substances in the past.

Five Finger Death Punch, the evolution of the Thrash Metal of the ’90s

Five Finger Death Punch

Originally published on May 18th, 2018 at 11:11. Updated post with new music.

Heavy rhythm guitars, guitar solos with feeling, a lot of double bass drum, dark verses and melodic choruses, that’s how I define 5FDP.

Music specialists would classify them as Groove Metal. The important thing is that this band recovers the evoulution of the 90s Thrash Metal.

5FDP, American band formed in 2005. The name refers to a classic Kung Fu technique called Five Finger Death Punch. It is said that the idea was taken from films such as Kill Bill or the super chinese movie production, King Boxer.

Hit song:

Recently they have released their eighth album and I can tell you that it is one of my favorites of the band.

If this is your first time listening to 5FDP, I recommend you to start with their third work, American Capitalist, which I think is the best of his career.

Hollywood Undead, talent behind the masks

Hollywood Undead – New Empire, Volume 1

If you like Rap Metal, Gangsta Rap, Hip Hop, Pop, Rock, R&B, House… if you need to listen to different types of music without going crazy, Hollywood Undead is what you are looking for.

American band that was born on MySpace. In 2006, they accumulated 8 million views, leading the ranking of artists without a contract.

Hit song:

Taking advantage of the fact that the band is releasing their sixth album New Empire, Vol.1 and that next Monday February 17, 2020 I will see them live with Papa Roach, what better excuse to update this post.

After your previous job, Five, and listening a couple of times, I must say I’ve loved it. Powerful guitars, compact drums, and super-strong voices.

All the band members use pseudonyms and wear their own mask.

When the heart breaks, but the music gives you strength to continue

Avenged Sevenfold

Avenged Sevenfold gives us B-sides, and covers with “Diamonds In The Rough“.

Diamonds In The Rough is an album with covers, b-sides and alternate versions of some of their most famous songs.

The A7X frontmam explained:

“It’s very typical of musicians to write 20 to 30 songs for a particular album. Most of the time, they take the best of the bunch and call it a day, discarding the rest. We have never written like that. We don’t usually finish songs unless they are fulfilling a purpose. The one exception to this was during the self-titled era. We were experimenting with our sound, producing ourselves and we had no one to reel us in.”

M. Shadows
Diamonds In The Rough album

Since the album came out I haven’t stopped listening to it and I can say that it is a masterpiece. I liked it a lot more than their previous work The Stage. Watch out! I don’t mean this one’s bad. Watch out! I don’t mean this one’s bad. It just reminds me of that turning point the band had from guttural to melodic voices.

And what are you going to find at Diamonds in the Rough? Apart from unpublished songs, two different versions of Almost Easy and the famous Afterlife, as well as 3 amazing covers of Flash Of The Blade (Iron Maiden), Walk (Pantera) and Paranoid (Black Sabbath).

Avenged Sevenfold

Our second recommendation is based on the origins. A Californian band whose members, like my first band, had known each other since high school. In 1999, at just 18 years of age, Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) was born.

The beginnings of the band, especially in the first two albums, the voice was more focused on the screaming style. It was not until the fourth homonymous album, when they began to use melodic voices.

I have great admiration for this band, since the drummer passed away (friend and founder), they continued writting music without losing their identity.

Hit song:

As a curiosity, singer M. Shadows was the first guest vocalist on Slash’s debut solo album. This collaboration was born, after A7X performed It’s Not Easy by Guns ‘n’ Roses with him.

Finally, for all the guitarists that are reading this, tell you that the lead guitar, Synyster Gates, recently opened with his father, Brian Haner (composer and producer) a virtual academy called The Synyster Gates School. Totally free.

Thank you Taylor Swift for showing us I Prevail

I Prevail

Welcome to my Trauma… I Prevail releases their last work and I won’t lie to you, is at the same level as we expected.

Continuing on the track of their previous work “Lifelines“, the band keeps betting on their guttural verses by Eric Vanlerberghe, with the catchy, harmonious choruses of Brian Burkheiser.

Hit song:

Getting another MASTERPIECE is not easy, even more so considering where the bar was set. They won’t let you down at all!
