Slipknot is ready for their sixth round. What about you?

August will be Slipknot‘s month, this band from Iowa will present their latest work “We Are Not Your Kind”. Until then, let’s check out their discography.

It was 1999, in one hand the keys of the car after passing the driving license and in the other a red CD with 9 people with masks… Slipknot was one of the first bands I listened behind the wheel and certainly a breath of fresh air in the Nu-Metal movement.

Hit song:

There is not much we can say about this band from Des Moine, Iowa, that has not been said or written. But… Did you know… ?

Corey Taylor:
Before Slipknot released their first album, in their second performance and known under the name Meld, they shared the stage with the band Stone Sour.

Spit it out:
Thanks to this hit single, the band caught the attention of record companies. Finally the great Ross Robinson, producer who bet on bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit or Deftones, took care of working with them to record their first album.

Did they always wear masks?:
Not all the time. Although the band started in 1992, it wasn’t until 1995 that they decided to use gross makeup and later masks. Finally in 1997 they decided to identify with numbers and wear customs.

Joey Jordison:
Did you know that ex-drummer Joey Jordinson had to replace Lars Ulrich (Metallica) at the Download Festival because of an anxiety attack? And the answer is yes… He couldn’t rehearse with them, so he just warmed up, reached the stage and played.

Before their fifth album, Joey had to leave the band because of a terrible disease called transverse myelitis, a form of multiple sclerosis that affected his legs and made him unable to play. Fortunately, after a long and hard rehabilitation, Joey himself confirms that he is at 100% and ready to start new projects.

All Hope is Gone:
Debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard list.

.5 The Gray Chapter, tributo a un amigo:
On May 24th, 2010, bassist Paul Gray died after an accidental overdose of morphine and its synthetic substitute, fentanyl. Sad news, where Corey Taylor himself stated that it would make no sense to continue with Slipknot without Gray. Finally, the band decided to move on and pay tribute.

Sôber, metal with Spanish Denomination of Origin

After the hangover of this first year with you, what better way to recover than with Sôber, our first Spanish blog band.

I remember two moments with Sôber:

  1. When I come back from my academic year in the U.S., I will not forget that my first band I heard after so much Nu-Metal. Without a doubt a new chapter in the national scene.
  2. Year 2001, Festimad Music Festival. All of us with our red Yankee caps waiting anxiously for Limp Bizkit to come up on the main stage.  Unfortunately we were disappointed not to see them for lack of “security” (if the 9 members of Slipknot could, no one understood how the selfish Fred Durst, couldn’t). After all the confusion, I was not looking forward to seeing them, because is the next stage and minutes before I’d seen Sôber giving it all. It was a good “taste in my mouth” to go home.
Hit song:

This band from Madrid was founded in 1994 by Carlos Escobedo (vocals/bass) and Antonio Bernardini (guitar). In the beginning, the songs were written in English and under the name of Sober Stoned. After a few demos and captured the attention of the record labels, the company for which they sign recommends them to sing in Spanish in order to better express what they feel.

After 10 years together, the band decides to split up taking different ways. From this break-up emerged Skizoo (Antonio Bernardini and Jorge Escobedo) and Savia (Carlos Escobedo and Alberto Madrid). Two amazing bands that I strongly recommend you to listen.

In 2010, they made an official statement with their return. Year that they shared line-up in Rock In Rio with Motorhead and Metallica.

If it’s the first time you listen them, Letargo and Superbia are my favorite albums, but you must also listen to Morfología, as well as their single Una Vida por Exprimir.

Who do you trust? Do you trust in Papa Roach?

This week the Californian band Papa Roach releases their 10th studio album “Who do you Trust?” And you… Do you still believe in the cockroach?

Before introducing themselves in the music world business with their famous debut album “Infest“, the band formed in 1993 recorded several EPs to make themselves known and thanks to them they got their first music contract to Warner Music Group and later to Dreamworks.

The name of the band comes from the grandfather of singer Jacoby Shaddix, who was nicknamed Papa Roach (his real name was Howard William Roatch).

Hit song:

I know it’s difficult to say, “If this is the first time you’ve listened to Papa Roach“. If the answer is yes, I recommend you to start with their first work “Infest“, pure nu metal with great verses by Jacoby. The more you listen to the following albums, the more those rap parts and heavy guitar riffs will disappear to arrive at what is my favorite album and that I would classify as MASTERPIECE, “F.E.A.R.“.
